I wanted to see what it would look like to have a long exposure feet from traffic, instead of the birds-eye exposure that's more common.
You see a lot of timelapses and long exposures of highways from hundreds of feet away, often in the air. They emphasize the sheer scale of modern transportation. And by showing the paths people take without including a single car, they have a sense of otherness.
I do not recommend trying this at home.
I took this last year using a long exposure about 10 feet off of a highway. It was the time of night when the Trucks are out in force. There was probably a cluster of trucks and cars speeding past every minute or two, and I was terrified. It was so loud.
I wanted to see what would happen if you did it up close and personal.
